COLONOSCOPY  PREPARATION:

Colonoscopy is a visual examination of the lining of your large intestine (colon).

A long flexible camera is inserted through the rectum and passed along the colon to check for any abnormalities. During the examination tiny tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken for laboratory analysis and polyps (abnormal growths of tissue) can be removed. These procedures are both painless.

It  is very important the colon be completely cleansed prior to colonoscopy to allow your physician a clear view of the colon. If the colon is not clean, procedure  may have to be repeated as per the physicians instructions.

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

Take the laxatives you have been prescribed according to the direction below; you  should consume all of the medicine. Please do not stop have way through even if have a clear stools.

If scheduled only for Colonoscopy, you can have water until 4 hours before the  procedure. If you have an endoscopy as well please stop drinking at 4 AM.

Allowed

 

Water, clear broth,

 Tea (no milk) sprite/ 7up,

Apple juice, strained fruit juice  (not red color),

Jello (not red color)

Not Allowed

 

Coffee, milk, dark or red color drinks,any solid food, creamy soups, yogurt

Also no nuts or seeds for 3 days before  procedure

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                                  

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

 
3 SACHETS OF PICOLAX+ 4 tabs Dulcolax
(Each Sachet should be mixed with one glass of Water)

IF SCHEDULED FOR A MORNING PROCEDURE:

No Breakfast the previous day

Start with Clear Liquid Diet

Take 1 sachet of Picolax diluted with I glass water at 16:00hrs

2 Dulcolax  tablets at 16:00hrs

Second sachet of picolax at 19.00 hrs 

2 tabs  of Dulcolax at 22.00hrs

Third sachet of Picolax at 22:00hrs.

Can have water until 4am on the day of procedure then fast

Take any heart, blood pressure or seizure medication with a small sip of water at 4 AM

 

IF SCHEDULED FOR AN  AFTERNOON PROCEDURE:

 

Have a Light Breakfast the previous day, before 08:00hrs

Start with Clear Liquid Diet (see Box)

Take 2 Dulcolax  tablets at 16:00hrs

Take 1 sachet of Picolax at 18:00

Take 2nd sachet of picolax at 20:00 hrs

2 Dulcolax tablets at 22:00hrs

Take 1  sachet of Picolax at 06:00hrs the day of procedure

Can have water until 10:00hrs then fast

                      MOVI PREP INSTRUCTIONS  

Each MoviPrep kit contains a disposable container, 2 pouches labeled A, and 2 pouches labeled B. You must complete the entire prep to ensure the most effective cleansing.

If preferred, mix solution ahead of time and refrigerate prior to drinking. The reconstituted solution should be used within 24 hours.

Some people also prefer to drink MoviPrep with a straw.

         DURING THE PROCEDURE

A hospital gown must be worn and underwear removed. Disposable trousers can be provided if you wish.An intravenous cannula will be inserted into a vein in your hand or arm to allow the nurseto administer the sedative medications. These are mild sedative drugs and will make youfeel sleepy and relaxed. Eye glasses, contact lenses and dentures must be removed

The procedure takes between  5- 10 minutes for endoscopy and 20- 30mts for colonoscopy
